This is super cute and is such a great way to motivate students. What a great incentive to improve sight word fluency. You are one smart cookie for thinking of this. I bet your kiddos love it! They must be smart cookies!

P.S. I tried this with my son over the summer and it only back fired because he and my hubby couldn't stop eating the cereal. Hehe!!!

If you’re like me, you consider teaching a form of art. Having taught for 20 years, I have created many teaching resources, and here at The K Files, I would like to share them with you. As a mother of three boys and a “school mom” for my students, it is my belief that the classroom is a “home away from home”. From my home away from home…. …to yours.

When a student tries to “think about their thinking while reading”, they learn to recognize when comprehension breaks down and utilize a fix-up strategy to improve their comprehension.
Metacognition involves:
-Become aware of their thinking while they read
-Identify confusion and roadblocks that complicate comprehension
-Identify and utilize a strategy to improve comprehension
Also, check out the Guru anchor Charts© that were designed to help students take ownership of their learning.
