Bookshelf Makeover for my Readers Today, Leaders Tomorrow!

A few years back, one of my favorite “teeps” passed down her tiered bookshelves when she retired. They were in good shape but just needed a bit of lovin’. I finally got around to giving them a little TLC. Here they are with a little spray paint and some polka dot decor and voila!

FREEBIE: REader's Today, Leaders Tomorrow Bulletin Board Letters for Back to School

If you would like a copy of the “Reader’s Today” and “Leaders Tomorrow” letters, head on over to my TpT shop for this FREEBIE:

I also used these same letters to spruce up our classroom door. We are only allowed to cover up 20% of our door due to the Fire Code, so this will have to do. A lil’ fringe from the Target Dollar Spot and a few inspirational words:

I was afraid to give up my first grade library when I switched to third, thinking some of my students would still have the need for them. But that many? I may have hoarded them for three years. Time to let these go! I plan to share them with my colleagues.
Those of you who teach third, do you organize your books by reading level or topic?

When a student tries to “think about their thinking while reading”, they learn to recognize when comprehension breaks down and utilize a fix-up strategy to improve their comprehension.
Metacognition involves:
-Become aware of their thinking while they read
-Identify confusion and roadblocks that complicate comprehension
-Identify and utilize a strategy to improve comprehension
Also, check out the Guru anchor Charts© that were designed to help students take ownership of their learning. By assigning a reading strategy/skill guru to EACH of your students, you will have created a student-centered classroom. Your students will be engaged, excited and will become experts in their “field” and equipped to teach their classmates throughout the year.
